#174 Member Of The Year Page
Chapter #174 “Leger de Maine”
Member of the Year 2006
Karen Seymour
Karen has been a very active member of #174 for over 6 years and has been a member of the S.A.M. for many years. She has been our treasurer since 2001.
Karen supports the club by opening our meeting room each month, which puts her in a situation to attend most every meeting! She unlocks the door, puts our sign out, makes the coffee, cleans the room (if needed) sets out chairs and opens the lending library. She does the reverse at the end of the meeting. She organizes the club shows, which pay for our yearly rent.
Karen is involved with many aspects of our club, including performing at most meetings, participating in most club fundraisers, and attending most club functions. As a bonus to our organization Karen also involves her husband Steve and her father Henry (two great guys) who have been known to help out as many events.
Karen is a very dedicated treasurer whose duties include collecting dues, annual auction money, fundraiser money, money from hats, pins, 50/50 proceeds, and any other cash in. She pays lecturer fees and rooms, banquet fees, coffee supplies, BBQ supplies, and any other club bills.
Karen is active in the advancement to the Art of Magic with her efforts as the Maine Society of Young Magicians leader. Each month she mentors young magicians and sets up public performances to help hone their skills. In recognition of Magic Week she has performed for a group of seniors and has set up a library display in the Portland Public library.
It is with all this, we bestow the prestigious title of Member of the year 2006 to Karen Seymour.
Member of the Year 2008
President of S.A.M. 174 Scot Grassette has earned points through Magic week and meeting attendence but it was the fundraising efforts of the "Just Imagine" magic show that put his points through the roof! Scot organized the Largest Letter to Santa and a magic show that net just over $2000 to be split between the Mountain Valley Majorettes and SAM #174. Special thanks go to Kaitlyn Grassette, Dennis Labbe, The Great Stephan, Professor Miller and Dr. Wilson. who performed to a very appreciative audience
Scot volunteers time each month as a SYM leader in Rumford, Maine's Capital of Magic. The SYM members performed strolling magic at the Child Advocacy Day at the Rumford Eagles Club on May 3rd. Scot also sets up a free show for the Rumford Community Home, an elderly nursing facility. Oct. 27th SYM members donate time during Magic Week to perform for those folks who don't regularly get out to see live entertainment. Scot's SYM group also recieved a $100 award for growth in 2008! Congratulations Scot!
